The portaledge is a bed suspended from the wall. Vertical camping has been around since man first wanted to climb great walls for several days.
Originally, they tied themselves to the wall like a sausage and slept suspended from it.
Today, the portaledge, a bed attached to the wall, allows us to spend a night in unusual accommodation: the roof of your room will be the vault of heaven, the floor will be the void and your bed will have no legs.

‘l'instant Restonica’ a dinner in the middle of a wall
The “Table d’En Haut” is a great way to experience Corsican flavours from a higher altitude. I’m offering you a meal of quality local produce, seated on the edge of a portaledge.
The photo is not at all representative of the planned dinner; it was taken when I was looking for the ideal location.
I wanted this unique spot, with a breathtaking view of the Restonica valley, to be reserved for a few connoisseurs looking for an unusual meal in a place as unusual as the mountains that surround it. At the bottom of the valley, you can see Monte Rotondo with its tongue of snow that lasts until June, and further on, Lake Melo.
The “Table d’en Haut” is a suspension of the mind, the senses and the tastes, where dreams are king.
I propose a real dinner with, on the menu, the speciality of my suspended cuisine: ‘L’instant Restonica’.
How do we organise dinner?
- We meet up at the end of the afternoon.
- A short twenty-minute walk along a family trail takes us to ‘La Table d’en Haut’.
- Want to do a little more? We can take the start of the Via Corda Restonica Tafoni.
- Then you will take your place on your portaledges, those chairs without legs that seem to float in the sky.
- We will take in this unique panorama, then it will be time to savour the dinner prepared with local quality products.
- After dessert, a herbal tea or a coffee, it is time to bid farewell to these magical landscapes that hide with the night.
- Equipped with our headlamps, we descend back into the valley.
You should bring
- Low-top closed shoes, no sandals
- Clothing suitable for outdoor activities, with a light fleece
- We will lend you headlamps and the technical equipment for the activity

Night in a portaledge "Discovery"
Experiencing a night in a portaledge is accessible to everyone. Without any knowledge of climbing, you can experience this unusual night in the middle of the sky.
We make our way along a secure path to our portaledges. The splendid landscape would almost make us forget that a simple, quality meal awaits us.
We enjoy the last rays of sunshine before waiting for the ‘Sandman’ who will come to rock us for this unforgettable night.
Wake up, breakfast and here we are, sadly leaving this enchanted place.
We will immortalise this night by offering you some photos taken from up there.
How is the ‘Discovery’ portaledge overnight organised?
Description
- Meet up at the end of the afternoon.
- After an approach walk of about 30 minutes, we reach our suspended bed, the portaledge.
- You are roped up and completely safe.
- We settle down on our portaledges.
- Evening meal.
- We sleep.
- Breakfast.
- End of the activity in the early morning
No knowledge of climbing is necessary to experience the ‘discovery’ night in a portaledge.

- Approach shoes, hiking shoes, basketball type, must be closed
- 2 litres of water
- Clothing suitable for the season
- Small rucksack
The price includes:
- All the technical equipment necessary to spend a night in safety.
- Sleeping bag.
- Inflatable mattress.
- Evening meal.

Prerequisites:
- Be over 18 years of age or be accompanied by an adult.
- Be in good physical shape.
- Not be subject to vertigo.

the Mini Big Wall of Corsica
A mini Big Wall in Corsica?
You won’t be at the foot of El Cap, but…
I was looking for a wall with an impressive panorama, where it was possible to hoist the equipment and learn big wall climbing techniques.
The last length will be artificially equipped to pass certain points. Of course we will take our Waste Case, our big wall toilets, with us. We will do everything like the adults…
Equipped with our climbing gear, portaledges and hauling bags, we set off on a short approach walk. Then we start to climb the 5-pitch route, with hauling and rope ascents.
We set up our portaledges to prepare our meal before spending a well-deserved night under the stars.
Breakfast, pack up camp, abseil down one pitch and return along a trail.
How is the Mini Big Wall of Corsica organised at night?
Description
- Meeting in the middle of the morning.
- Carrying equipment and portaledges to the foot of the Big Wall of Corsica.
- Climbing the first pitch and hauling equipment, fixed rope technique for the second.
- After five pitches of climbing and hauling equipment, setting up the suspended camp.
- We settle down on our portaledges.
- Preparation of the evening meal on a camping stove
- A well-earned night’s sleep
- Preparation of breakfast
- Dismantling the camp, leaving the route
- Return at the end of the activity at the end of the morning.
